The weeks leading up to Christmas are a holy time, a time of preparation and reflection on what it means to be a Catholic. It’s also a time to reflect on the second coming of Christ and to prepare to celebrate the anniversary of his birth at Christmas. At K-YES radio, our goal is to help you and other community members gain a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith and advent through our radio programming, which you can listen live to online, 24/7.
For Catholics, Advent is the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year, with the word Advent being derived from the Latin ‘ad-venio’, meaning ‘to come to’.
Advent is a time of preparation, a time to direct our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time as well as to the anniversary of His birth on Christmas.
Advent devotions remind us of the reason for this season. Devotions include the lighting of an Advent wreath, as well as the use of an Advent calendar (chocolate filled or not) to help remind us of the season with daily thoughts and activities. Prayers are also devotions, which we should say daily to spiritually prepare us for the birth of Jesus.
Another way to prepare during this season is to find relevant, Catholic programming which can help expand your knowledge of Advent, Christ and your Catholic faith.

‘Conversation with Glen Lewerenz’
‘Conversation with Glen Lewerenz’ is a local St. Cloud radio host on K-YES. All Advent long, he’ll be interviewing priests and other Catholics about how they’re preparing for Advent and how they anticipate the coming of Jesus. Be sure to listen live from 9-10 a.m. and 6-7 p.m. every weekday.
And of course, during this Advent season we should be attending mass as often as possible. If you aren’t able to make it to daily mass during this time, be sure to listen to that day’s morning mass from the St. Cloud Cathedral! Mass is recorded and then rebroadcast from 8:30-9 p.m. every weekday right here on K-YES.
